Empowering Every Child: Welfare Call’s Commitment to SEND

Posted by on 2nd October 2023

In the challenging landscape of child welfare and education, ensuring that every child’s unique needs are met is paramount. Not only are local authorities responsible for maintaining a clear, accessible local offer of services to support children and young people with SEND and their families, but they also need to keep education and care provision under review and consider if it is sufficient to meet the needs of children and young people in their area.

Welfare Call is dedicated to enhancing the educational experience of children with SEND and works alongside local authorities to achieve this goal.

Creating Accountability Through Attendance

One of the critical aspects of Welfare Call’s services lies in holding specialist provisions accountable. Local authorities, with the support of Welfare Call, can monitor attendance rates rigorously. Some progressive authorities have even amended contracts and Service Level Agreements (SLAs) with specialist provisions, stipulating a minimum expectation of a 90% average attendance figure for every child and young person placed with them. This proactive measure ensures that the considerable financial investments made in these provisions translate into tangible results, placing the emphasis on value for money.

Enabling Local Authorities to Make Informed Decisions

Our comprehensive data and reporting mechanisms empower local authorities with the insights needed to make informed decisions. From attendance records to academic progress, the data provided by Welfare Call enables authorities to identify trends, measure the effectiveness of interventions, and make necessary adjustments to better support children with SEND.

Evaluating the Effectiveness of Expenditure

Our electronic Personal Education Plan (ePEP) service enables key stakeholders to record SMART targets to showcase how they will support the child or young person with their identified SEND and strive to improve their educational outcomes, and requests for additional funding can also be made via this platform.

This in turn enables Local Authorities to respond promptly to those requests, measure the appropriateness of the targets and interventions that have been put in place and also evaluate the effectiveness of each expenditure.

We provide a pupil premium manager enabling Virtual Schools to monitor and report on SMART targets, pupil premium expenditure and interventions used from the Education Endowment Toolkit. Our reporting suite enables you to see how much pupil premium has been requested and granted on a cohort, child and individual school level.

Empowering student voices

Our electronic Personal Education Plan (ePEP) service also enables children and young people to have a voice so they can describe in their own words the successes and challenges they may face through their educational journey. This holistic approach ensures that any interventions which are put in place correlate with the child and young person’s own thoughts, feelings, wishes and needs.

By providing tailored assistance, ensuring accountability through attendance, and fostering collaborative reviews, Welfare Call plays a pivotal role in supporting the educational journey of every child and young person based on their unique needs.
